Gaia Biomaterials expands with Wihlborgs in Helsingborg

Gaia Biomaterials manufactures Biodolomer, a chalk-based material that looks and can be used like plastic but is compostable and does not generate microplastics. The material can serve as an alternative to virtually all traditional plastic production.

Interest in the material is now growing rapidly across large parts of the world, especially in the US, the Middle East, and Africa, which is driving demand.

Gaia Biomaterials is already a tenant of Wihlborgs at the Bunkalund Östra 8 property but will, as of 1 December, expand from 4,000 sqm to 6,300 sqm.

“We see a strong increase in our exports as more and more countries demand materials that are biodegradable and compostable. The fact that our material reduces carbon dioxide emissions and does not produce any microplastics are key factors behind our international success. We are very satisfied with Wihlborgs as property owner, and with this expansion of our space we can secure our growth opportunities,” says Peter Stenström, CEO of Gaia Biomaterials.

“We are delighted that Gaia Biomaterials has chosen to expand in Helsingborg and with us. Their success is an example of how innovative companies can grow here and offer sustainable alternatives on the global market. For us at Wihlborgs, it is important to create the right conditions for this kind of growth. It strengthens both the business community and the region’s attractiveness – and contributes to a more sustainable future,” says Ulrika Hallengren, CEO of Wihlborgs.
