• Series production of heavy duty commercial vehicle cylinder blocks in China
• 13 litre engine production underway; 11 litre and 16 litre versions to follow
• Global trend toward CGI reinforced for next-generation of commercial vehicles

[Stockholm, 23 January 2025] – First Automobile Works (FAW), one of the largest commercial vehicle manufacturers in the world, has begun series production of its new-generation 13 litre commercial vehicle engine. The 13 litre version is the first entry in a new family of 11 litre, 13 litre and 16 litre heavy-duty engines developed by FAW, all based on SinterCast-CGI cylinder blocks. Pre-production of the 13 litre version intensified during the fourth quarter of 2024, in advance of this month’s formal start of production. Pre-production of the 11 litre and 16 litre versions has also been activated in advance of the planned start of production during 2025. Together, the three FAW programmes have the potential to contribute approximately 500,000 Engine Equivalents per year at mature volume, corresponding to 15% growth beyond the current run-rate of approximately 3.2 million Engine Equivalents.

With commercial vehicles accounting for approximately 50% of our volume, the dominant trend toward CGI provides the foundation for our targets to reach the five million Engine Equivalent milestone in 2026 and the seven million milestone in 2029”.
