Intea’s infrastructure project in Falköping officially inaugurated
Yesterday, the recently expanded train depot in Falköping was officially inaugurated. The depot is leased by Västtrafik under a 25-year lease agreement.
Intea acquired the property in 2020 and has since developed the facility in close collaboration with Västtrafik. Through the expansion, the depot´s capacity has doubled from three to six maintenance bays, enabling the servicing of more trains and creating better conditions for reliable and efficient rail operations in the region.
The new building comprises approximately 4,600 sqm and includes not only a maintenance hall but also office and staff areas. At the same time, the rail yard has been redeveloped and expanded to cover more than 60,000 sqm.
”We are making major investments in new trains so that more people can travel with us. To support this, we must also ensure that the trains can be maintained and operated efficiently. This investment is therefore an important part of the development of public transport in western Sweden”, says Kent Lagrell (M), Vice Chairman of Västtrafik.
Several solutions were selected during the construction project to reduce climate impact. For example, the office and warehouse areas were built using glued laminated timber frames instead of concrete. The building is heated using geothermal energy in combination with hybrid solar panels and photovoltaic solar panels.
”The depot is an important part of the regional infrastructure and fits well with Intea’s strategy of investing in social infrastructure properties with stable, long-term tenants. We look forward to developing and managing the facility together with Västtrafik for many years to come”, says Peter Jacobsson, Head of Business Development and Projects at Intea.
