Hynion signs agreement with Uniper-owned OKG to secure hydrogen supply
Hynion, which continuously strives to enhance the operational reliability of its hydrogen refueling stations, is now taking an important step by including OKG as one of its hydrogen suppliers. This partnership represents an important part of Hynion's strategy to reduce dependence on individual suppliers.
Uniper, the international energy company that owns OKG, plays an important role in over 40 countries and is a leading electricity producer in Sweden. Uniper's facilities, including fossil-free hydropower and nuclear power, are crucial for both secure energy supply and the ongoing energy transition. The hydrogen that Hynion will use is produced at OKG’s nuclear power plant, where Oskarshamn 3 (O3), one of the world's largest boiling water reactors, generated 9.2 TWh of carbon-free electricity in 2023, equivalent to 6.8 % of Sweden's total electricity consumption.
"We are very grateful for this collaboration. We need stable producers who, together with us at Hynion, want to contribute to the energy transition and a carbon-free future. The hydrogen delivery from OKG is an important step to secure the supply of hydrogen at our stations," says Slavica Djuric, CEO of Hynion AS.
"It is fantastic that the surplus production we sell can help Hynion with hydrogen for their refueling stations so that together we can help reduce carbon dioxide emissions," says Johan Lundberg, CEO of OKG.
