Decision on land allocation becomes final

The Land and Environmental Court of Appeal (MÖD) announced today that it will not grant leave to appeal regarding the appeal of Viscaria's land allocation for the Viscaria project. The land allocation was granted by the Chief Mining Inspector (bergmästaren) on June 29, 2023, and has since been appealed to the Land and Environmental Court and then to MÖD. Today's decision means that the land allocation becomes final.

The land allocation decision designates the land that may be used for mining activities and establishes the compensation to be paid to the affected landowners and right holders for the allocated land. The land allocation applies to the mining concessions Viscaria K no. 3, Viscaria K no. 4, and Viscaria K no. 7 in Kiruna Municipality.

"We are very pleased that the land allocation has now become final. We believe there are good prospects for our environmental permit to also become final shortly," said Jörgen Olsson, CEO of Viscaria.

The land allocation is the last in a series of decisions from the Chief Mining Inspector needed for Viscaria to begin the planned mining operations. A permit under the Environmental Code is also required to conduct mining operations, and the process for this is progressing. On December 4, 2024, the Gabna Sami village appealed MÖD's decision not to grant leave to appeal regarding Viscaria's environmental permit to the Supreme Court, which will now decide whether the appeal will be considered.
