Netflix traded a brick and a wood to pave the way—securing exclusive global rights and drawing the rare “CATAN” development card for both scripted and unscripted projects. 
 
Based on CATAN by Klaus Teuber, originally released in 1995 as The Settlers of Catan, the upcoming projects will be the first adaptation to bring the fictional island of CATAN — a place where settlers must navigate bountiful and varied landscapes, shifting alliances, and limited resources, while robbers roam the land — to life through a richly imagined narrative. 
Darren Kyman from asmodee, Pete Fenlon from CATAN Studio (an asmodee studio), and the brothers, Guido Teuber and Benjamin Teuber, from the Teuber family, will produce all projects under the deal. Roy Lee from Vertigo Entertainment is also attached to produce. 
 
CATAN has become a pop culture staple, selling over 45 million copies and translated into over 40 languages. Its compelling blend of strategy, resource negotiation, and world-building has sparked a worldwide fanbase across generations and cultures.

The CATAN series joins Netflix’s growing portfolio of game-to-screen adaptations, including Arcane, Castlevania, Family Pack (The Werewolves of Miller’s Hollow), Exploding Kittens, the upcoming Assassin’s Creed series, the Monopoly reality competition series, and the Gears of War film.
