The project aims to make the municipal wastewater system more reliable and robust for the future. The new system will increase the capacity of the wastewater network and wastewater from the municipality will be handled securely. The project is being carried out to meet today’s environmental requirements and to reduce the risk of impacting the Göta Älv River, which is a water protection area and a source of drinking water for Gothenburg and the surrounding area.

“We are now looking forward to starting the construction phase of this important project together with NCC. The new pipeline will help us to ensure that wastewater from Ale Municipality is handled in a sustainable manner, now and in the future, at the same time as we prepare for growth in the municipality. The investment will also reduce the burden on the Göta Älv River, which is an important source of raw water for the Gothenburg region,” says Jesper Normén, Head of Operations at the town planning administration in Ale Municipality.

NCC will lay a 12-kilometer-long transfer pipeline along the Göta Älv River and construct a drinking water pipeline and three pumping stations in Älvängen, Nol and Nödinge. The assignment also includes making the required functionality adjustments to the existing water and wastewater network. NCC and Ale Municipality have jointly planned and designed the project since August 2023.

“When we are involved from an early stage – as was the case in this project – we can add valuable expertise throughout the process and in cooperation with Ale Municipality create excellent solutions for this particular project. This type of multifaceted project is best when conducted in partnership as the client can then fully leverage our experience and expertise in constructing water and wastewater infrastructure,” says Kenneth Nilsson, Head of NCC Infrastructure.

Construction will commence in November 2024 and is scheduled to be completed in October 2026. The order will be registered in the NCC Infrastructure business area in the third quarter of 2024 and the order value is approximately SEK 450 million.
