NCC Awareness Day: We work safely or not at all
Since 2011, Awareness Day has been a cornerstone of NCC’s commitment to fostering a robust safety culture. Tomorrow, September 4, at 9:00 a.m. the entire organization will pause work to reflect on health and safety.
“Awareness Day is a clear signal to the entire organization, our suppliers and customers of the importance of continuously striving for safe work environments. Risk behavior is an underlying factor in near misses, incidents and accidents,” says Lars-Gunnar Larsson, Head of Health and Safety at NCC.
NCC’s health and safety efforts aim to eliminate serious incidents and ensure zero fatal accidents at NCC’s sites. Recognizing and addressing the risk behaviors that can lead to unsafe and unhealthy work environments play a critical role.
“Although NCC and the industry as a whole struggle with excessively high accident rates, we can see that we are steadily improving due to a high level of employee commitment and systematic improvements based on data and statistics. Since 2020, there has been a 60-percent reduction in the number of potentially fatal accidents at NCC’s construction sites”, says Lars-Gunnar Larsson, and he continues;
“Another lesson we have learned is that work sites where there is involvement by all parties at an early stage tend to be accident-free. Recognizing and addressing risk behaviors is crucial to create safe work environments”.
What is Awareness Day?
Awareness Day aims to support a safety culture that contributes to our long-term objective of reducing accidents in general and eliminating serious accidents and incidents. In addition to NCC employees, subcontractors and consultants are actively encouraged to participate in discussions on how we can achieve a better and safer work environment. The first Awareness Day was held in 2011.
