Rabeximod is an immunomodulatory drug that has shown selectivity for pro-inflammatory macrophages and dendritic cells, which are cells that are central to the disease process in rheumatoid arthritis. Since the discovery of rabeximod in 2003, it has been documented how the drug significantly inhibits key pro-inflammatory processes in these disease-driving cells, but without having a detailed picture of the drug's target protein. The new research results now provide a much more detailed insight into the drug's mechanism of action.

” The new research findings are a very important step forward for the rabeximod project. We now have a much better idea of how the drug works in the cells. The results show that rabeximod has a unique mechanism of action (First-in-Class) that also provides a background to the favorable safety profile documented for the drug. Rabeximod is a mature and well-built project in Phase 2 where a comprehensive data package from pharmacological, preclinical and clinical studies, as well as already established manufacturing processes, has been supplemented with new patent protection and now with the last piece of the puzzle regarding the mechanism of action.
